This is one event well recommended to professional/novice or beginners, in the mountain biking world, I tried the event circuit out myself about a month before the main weekend and found it challenging with a good work out, I did not ride this weekend but got a reasonable session of photography in which I hope you all enjoy. Photo’s/images will be in gallery under Sports.
One word I will say is yes I am going to set my goal to race this event next year, so maybe I might get myself in some images by other photographers on the day.
Just little note’s, and info that I know of that I will give all so if interested will go and have a go at this event next year, all links I will have a list so you can easy go to the proper sites.
If you can ride a Mountain Bike, then am sure Bayview Blast and Rats cycling club will find an event that suits you best.
This event is a great family weekend for fun and excitement.
Sunday is the Marathon and Half Marathon. where riders will either be keen “competitors” or out to challenge themselves or other to see if they can complete a distance or set a personal time. Team events will add to the intrigue with pairs able to join in a relay format to challenge themselves or race for a place.
Rats cycling Club has negotiated a deal with “Mountain Bike Australia” so that all insurance built into the entry fee, so need to worry about race license for Social riders, road club members, triathletes, Tough Mudder enthusiasts this event can offer anyone and everyone a place to test themselves.
If more information is needed don’t hesitate to contact any of the links listed below, “Happy Biking”

Saturday morning 10/10/2015 I spent a couple of hours at Iceland Bundall http://www.goldcoasticeland.com.au/ https://www.facebook.com/icelandbundall with my 2 daughters, it’s a great ice skating rink, we have been there a numerous amount of times over the years, I thought with the different type of lighting this place has, it would be a great chance to test some of my flash photography out, so I bought along with us my Nikon D610 camera and SB910 speed-light flash, I am still trying to get the hang of this type of photography, the more I shoot the better I beleave I am getting, on this session I was using the setting TTL-BL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8UkiBLrBH8 The most advanced flash mode on the Nikon flash is TTL-BL. Originally, the BL meant Back-lit, but Nikon marketing gurus changed it to mean Balanced Fill. I don’t know why they just didn’t change the name to TTL-BF. One thing about this type of photography I trying to get my head around is that shutter speed in the camera does no adjustments to the flash, but when I do change these setting it changes the ambient in the back ground, aperture and ISO settings makes changes to the flash, which lights our images up, and shutter changes the ambient, I am getting there, the more I shoot of cause the better I am getting, feel free to check out other photo’s under People Iceland in my photo gallery, all comments good or bad more than welcome, I handle criticism well, it’s how we all learn, anyhow I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend and keep shooting.

Sunday 30/08/2015 early morning start with my 2 daughters, to try out some Paragliding/Hand Gliding Photography, it was an enjoyable event which took about 4 hours of photo shooting. The gliding event I heard takes part most weekends, if the wind is the right amount, when we had arrived there was one Hand Glider man setting up, I approached him and introduced my self & let him know what I was up-to, His name was Walt, he is apparently the main organizer of these events, this is the link if anyone is interested as I was, and learnt heaps http://www.chgc.asn.au/tambo.html I let him know that I was in a Photography meet up club and that there would be about 10 of us up here later to try out some action shots. Walt told me how the Gliding sport happens, and that they mainly rely on the wind to get lift of, particularly the paragliders, anywhere from 5 to 10 knots is all they need, and it is to come in little burst stints, as for the Hand glider they can just about take of with any breeze, on the Gold Coast there are two launching mountain and depends on the wind, if it’s a westerly they will take off from here, if it’s an easterly they will go to Beachmont. The Morning was good, it was a very colorful event, as you can see if you check out some photo’s in my gallery. The other members in our meet club, told me it was a very enjoyable experience and the learnt a lot of new photography methods, as for my photography the main thing I learnt out of my shoots, is it would have been a lot easier if I had of shot in shutter priority, as the lighting was perfect that day and aperture would have sorted it self out, as I was shooting in full manual. I was making a lot of adjustment as I had my focus set on continuous focus for the gliders as we know are moving all the time, overall I was very happy with my images, as you will see for your self, please don’t hesitate to comment on any photo’s, good or bad as any comment my readers make I take in and learn.
As I always say, all us photographers are always learning, and always will, photography is a massive field of Knowledge, “Keep shooting” 🙂

On Saturday 01/08/2015, I had arranged to do a photo shoot at http://www.bikesandbulls.com.au/ Mudgeeraba show grounds, I prearranged to do the shoot about 4 days earlier, I had seen a number of bill boards around the Gold Coast advertising the event, I thought that would be a great opportunity for my photography to get some good action shot in and hopefully try to gain some fast shutter night flash work experience. Four days earlier I emailed Brodie Carmichael, founder and owner of Bike&Bulls, explaining my situation that I am a full-time Motor Mechanic, and am a freelance photographer on weekend, and have shot photo’s every weekend when possible for the last 4 years, the email was asking him if he could arrange a pass for me for the event and if it was ok for me to photo shoots on the day, for exchange of that experience I would give him all full copies of photo’s. Brodie replied to my email that day with a phone call we had a little chat, he said it would not be a problem, the only main thing he specified was I could not go out back due to firework set up, and not to go in the bull arena, as he had their own personal photographer and there was a safety aspect involved, like waiver/exemption form there was not enough time for that, I said that would be ok, as for the experience would be more than I need for this shoot. We arranged to meet at the Mudgeeraba markets that day where he was doing promo work for the event, he gave me an entry pass we chatted a little more, the event opens at 3pm main shows starts at 5pm till 7.30, he said I would get a better chance if I got there at 1pm to photo shoot the freestyle bike riders practicing, he was right I got some great daylight faster shutter speed shots, the exposure lighting was great, photo’s I believe where awesome, on the day maybe a little more cloud cover might have given the photo’s a bit of a texture look, but I was happy with what I have. One thing I will admit I am not used to faster shutter night flash photography, but the more I do the better I will get, as you will see there was not many night shots, I strongly recommend if you have never done one of these events, they are a family friendly arrange event then go to Brodie Carmichael web site http://www.bikesandbulls.com.au/ I have a number of photo’s of the event action, under sporting events in gallery.
